Today has been a very, very, slow day for news. I went scouring through my usual sources and only found three things worth talking about. Pathetic, really :-/ Mind you, if these seriously are the only things worth talking about today, it’s been a damn good day, but if not… Well, it just confirms what I’ve been saying in this blog, doesn’t it?
So, a father in Victoria has been banned from weighing his son or discussing it with or within earshot of the boy… who’s 9 years old. The boy is disabled and his weight does affect hopw effective his treatments are, but from the sounds of it, the court’s going about this badly, if not just plain wrong. The man clearly has emotional issues; he evidently can’t deal well with anger, has been having problems coming to terms with his son’s disabilities, not to mention his own failed marriage and his inability to deal with these issues is manifesting in resentment, blame shifting and aggression.
Surely it would be better for all concerned if the boy perhaps lived solely with his mother for a time while his father sought help in dealing with his issues, or is that too much trouble? Better just to lay down some ridiculous rules and threaten him with fines and prison time if he can’t get a grip himself… Doesn’t seem to be serving anyone’s best interests, now, does it?
Second story today is one that should be much more important to people than it seems to be: Aussie scientists may have discovered a way to conduct chemotherapy without destroying the entire body in the process! Seriously, that’s huge!
The way Chemo works at the moment, if you’re not sure, is by introducing a cell-killing agent in to the body and allowing it to attack the caner cells. However, in it’s current manifestation, it also attacks the healthy cells, leading to horrifying side effects. It’s tough on everyone involved and can sometimes lead to the death of the patient much quicker than the cancer itself. But, with this new technique, it seems that the chemicals can be introduced directly to the affected, cancerous cells, subtantially lowering the effect Chemotherapy has on a patient’s body.
While it’s not a cure it’s a much better way of treating it and lengthening the patient’s life.
But, do you want to know why the cancer treatment story wasn’t as important as it should be? Take a wild, speculatory guess… Yeah, that’s right, Michael Jackson… I have nothing against the man, but Pop star’s death vs vastly improved cancer treatments? Come on!
At least one story I found on him was mildly amusing…
Well, I said today was slow, news wise. I was never a big Jacko fan, so I don’t want to wax lyrical about him. Which leaves me with nothing else to wax on about, really…
…you get an early minute… enjoy!
